Sandstone (sometimes known as arenite) is a sedimentary rock composed mainly of sand-sized minerals or rock grains. Most sandstone is composed of quartz and/or feldspar because these are the most common minerals in the Earth’s crust. Like sand, sandstone may be any color, but the most common colors are tan, brown, yellow, red, gray and white.
Some sandstones are resistant to weathering, yet are easy to work. This makes sandstone a common building and paving material.
While designing the SEKITEI coffee table Yulia Pyanzina was inspired by Japanese traditional Rock Gardening admiring its symbolism and philosophy. Rocks are rarely if ever placed in straight lines or in symmetrical patterns. From whatever point the viewer looks at the composition, he sees a different picture every time. Sometimes, however, it seems that the 5 stones, due to their irregular shape, are perceived as one whole. The symmetry and logic of the composition can only be observed by soaring in the air and looking at it from above.
The material we chose with Marmi Regina (JUNGLE GREEN MARBLE) represents a metaphorical journey on the river of life. The design of the SEKITEI coffee table has the value of reproducing a natural beauty that one can find in the real or mythical world.
